It’s not every day that you wake up in Vegas… that is, unless you live here. Let’s say, it’s not every day that you wake up in the Hooter’s Hotel and Casino… again, unless you live there. I was looking back on the night before though and wondering why I decided it would be a good idea to stay up until 2:30 in the morning. Oh yeah, because it’s Vegas. Next time I go to Vegas, I’m bringing friends. It seems like it might be a little more enjoyable…
I was on the road a little after noon and roasting in my car. I won’t use the AC. Who needs AC when it’s only 95 degrees outside? If it was 100 I would think about it, but 95 is nothing. I told my friend Matt that I wouldn’t use the AC at all during the trip because I wouldn’t need it… I like the heat. He told me to call him when I was in one of those really hot states and then we would see. No AC here. Let me just say, it takes a lot for me to sweat. Have I already talked about this in an earlier blog? I felt like I have… Anyway, I swear that I have an internal cooling mechanism that keeps my body cool when it’s really hot out. The only problem is that I don’t know how to turn it off, so when it gets a little colder, I’m freezing. I’ve been known to wear a hat and gloves at work when they have the AC pumping. When will they learn the difference between comfortably cool and arctic chill? Probably never. Until they do, I’m not getting another office job. Ok, that’s a lie… I’m sure I’ll need to make some money once I get back from this trip. Please hire me! Kidding…
I had big plans for my trip to Phoenix… I was going to stop at the Hoover Dam and take some great pictures, but because of these two cranes that fell over the day before, they closed the entire dam off to traffic. What is that all about? So, instead of seeing the wonderful Hoover Dam and taking some great pictures of me nearly falling off the edge, I had to settle for the Davis Dam. Actually, I didn’t even get to see the Davis Dam because I would have had to take some other road just to get to it… I didn’t have time for that though. So, I waved to the Davis Dam sign and kept on moving.
Let me tell you something that needs to happen in the next few years. They need to build an interstate highway from Phoenix to Las Vegas. What are they waiting for? There is so much traffic going back and forth on these crappy little roads, that they need something bigger and better. Speaking of bigger and better, let’s just scrap the whole idea for the interstate and go one step up from that. What they should do is put in a high speed, non stop train from all the major cities within a few hundred miles. The trains will have to be really fast though… it should only take 45 minutes or less to get from Phoenix to Las Vegas. Otherwise, what’s the point in having the trains if they’re not fast? Doesn’t everyone want to go to Vegas and get there fast? Of course. Obviously, I’m kidding, but an interstate would be great from Phoenix to Vegas. I’ll put in a couple bucks for it… once I start working again.
I’m staying in Scottsdale, Arizona with Craig and Laura, a couple of my sister’s friends. I mean, they’re my friends too, but I’ve really only hung out with them a few times in Denver. I’m actually just saying that they’re my friends so that it sounds like I know a lot of people all over the country… They’re cool people though and they are letting me spend the night in their apartment. They used to live in Denver, but they moved to Scottsdale a little while ago.
As I’ve said before, I’m treated like royalty when I stay at peoples homes. I don’t ask for it, and I try not to accept it, but sometimes you just can’t say no. I had to go to bed early and wake up early, but they didn’t… so they told me to sleep in their room and they would stay up, watch tv and sleep in the living room. I felt bad, but they insisted. It’s hard to argue more than once. They made up the bed for me and with a flick of the switch, I was out like a light.
